- Go to this site to find the Consumer Credit Counseling Service in your area: http://www.nfcc.org/. These are legit non-profit companies that offer credit counseling and have debt management programs if you qualify.
- I would suggest not to trust non profit organization. As non profit itself does not mean they are honest and good people either. It is imperative to do your research on any company that you try and get to work with you. These companies will make their money in a lot of different ways. They will usually just charge you a set up fee and a monthly fee that is rolled into your monthly payments. In addition to this they will also get a fair share percentage of what they recover from you from the credit companies they are paying off your debt to. In order for any of this stuff to actually work you need to make certain that you have a very steady income to pay off your normal monthly bills. When you start their program make certain that the payment is sent in with enough time left in the month in order to send out your payments to your outstanding creditors and debts. If you do not do this you will end up being charged with additional late fees and could hurt your credit rating even further then you already have hurt it. The one which once I came across is http://www.ezconsolidation.com which would provide you with all solution whether it is student consolidation, military consolidation, loan consolidation or debt consolidation. I think you can trust this organization..
- I like what bdancer2 said. Just remember that these are your debts and the only person who can really take care of them is you. If you owe the money, you need to pay them. There are also forms you can use like the pro rata letter which is a letter you write to the debt collectors explaining your situation and why you haven't paid. This will buy you a little time while you get some money together. There are also certain letters you can write yourself to the credit bureaus if you need to dispute something. There are many laws that go with this so the debt counselor would be a great bet. By law, if you dispute something and they can't prove it is yours to pay, they have to remove it in 30 days. Good luck!
- well there are lots of them on the net all you have to do is to make a research and choose the one that befit your plan
