  1. I used a company called American Financial Solutions. They are great (been using them for 3 years with no problem) and will be out of debt in about 6 months. You can look them up online, or call them at 800-570-3462
  2. check out http://creditdebitrepair.info it may have some useful tips for you. good luck!
  3. I don't think you are ready to go to a debt re-negotiation company at this time. Are you already behind in CC payments? If so, why not first contact the CC companies yourself, and see what they would be willing to accept.
  4. You should use pro rata. That's where you mail all the credit card companies a letter stating your personal situation. You apologize, tell them you know you owe them money and you promise to pay it, but right now you're unemployed and you have to take care of your mortgage/rent and food... all the necessities. You send them a copy of your bank statement proving you can't pay them and they will not hound you for money. You can even request they stop all interest payments until you can pay them back. Eventually you'll have to pay your debt, but while you're unemployed this will give you a little bit of time.
