Has anyone had any success with "debt settlement" companies?
Looking for the good, the bad and the ugly stories for anyone that has had experience with debt settlement companies. I am working with one right now and can't decide whether to continue working with them or file Chapter 13.

- I would not recommend a "debt settlement", they wont tell you this but it's just as bad as filing bankruptcy, actually you're better off with bankruptcy because you don't owe anything, besides the legal cost of it. Seriously, I don't know the details of your financial damage but you should pull your credit report and contact the creditors yourself, and let them know that you want to pay your balances/dues, and work out a plan w/ them. You can also dispute certain items on your report, in return will improve your credit report if they do not respond within 30 days. A " debt settlement" is not the answer.
- go to scam.com and ripoffreports.com do a search on your company in question there is a very good chance you find nothing but horror stories from these debt settlement companies, like others of it's ilk ( and that include tax settlement companies ) they take cases in bulk and you just a number to them ( like 2000.00 dollars or so ).. and the results are usally bad....JK Harris ( a tax settlement group ) just went into a settlement rather than face the class action filed against them, do a search and you find nothing but bad words about them. so caveat un emptor as they say...
