I have a ton credit card debt, I have received money to pay does it hurt my credit if I negotiate the balance?
I am trying to pay off some of my debt in full, however I have late fees, over the limit fees. I've been told that if I call and negoitiate these balances that will hurt my credit. Does it hurt my credit if I call and negoitiate them to take off some of the late fees, etc if I pay the card in full?

- If you have the money, just pay it off. Sheesh...
- If you negotiate, they may consider it a "charge-off". If they do this, it will adversely affect your credit score. Make sure they aren't going to consider it a "charge-off" if you do end up negotiating.
- For one thing the more you can pay on your credit cards and get some paid off then the credit will look better after some time but your credit report will be bad for while. I would call each one of the credit cards company and make some kind of payment plan to pay the rest of the cards off. The longer you wait the worst the interest will be. I have been there or the other thing you may have to do is a chapter 7 bankruptcy .
- Usually, they'll put a notation on your credit that it was paid in full as part of a settlement (meaning just principle, not interest). It doesn't help your credit, but the over balances and possible late payments are worse.
- Be a grown-up and take responsibility for your actions. If you have the money, pay the people. FYI, you don't have a "right" to a credit card, so negotiate if you want to, but understand they may waive the fees, accept your full payment, and cancel the account.
- Yes, go ahead and speak to them. When you have the money, they will take off some of the fees. Building Wealth by Reducing Debt http://www.askaquery.com/Answers/qn1578.html How to Manage Your Credit Card Debt? http://www.askaquery.com/Answers/qn1579.html
