Is there any way you can negotiate w/a creditor to lower the amount of debt owe? DESP Seeking Suggestions!!? I have numerous debts owed to several different creditors from 4 years ago. Today is the day I am going to contact two of the creditors to discuss paying my debt owed (I am on my way to becoming debt free and rebuilding my credit!) Is there anything I could say or do to negotiate the debt I owe? I owe Verizon $1100 and Victorias Secret $591. Also, what do I say or how do I go about making sure the "bad marks" are taken off my credit history? I desp need help! 10 points best answer thank you!
how to negotiate my debt with the collector? I really wanted to negotiate my debt with collector. Before it went over to the collector, the bank offered me 5000(which was about 55% of total 9000 debt). I wish i could have paid back then but i could not afford at all. Now the collector said it is about 16000 with interest and don't want to negotiate under 13000 and sent me a warning letter through a law firm. at this moment, i have no way to pay that huge amount. i really want to negotiate but i don't know how. Does anyone know any advice or any professional that can handle this matter so that i can reduce my debt payment?
how do I negotiate with creditors over debt? I need some direction, I have a few debts that I am going to need to pay off. I read that you can negotiate with your creditors a lower rate. How would this work, and has anyone ever had sucess in this?
Can you negotiate settlement on credit card debt? I have credit card debt that I have the money to pay off. However, I heard that credit card companies will negotiate a lower amount, say $2,000 instead of $3,000 in order to get the cards paid in full. 1. Is this true? 2. Does this look bad on your credit report? Or does it even appear? 3. How does this work and how do you go about negotiating with them? Thanks for your time!
Should I try to negotiate my credit card debt down before paying it off? I got a loan from a bank to pay off my credit cards, but I wonder if I call the companies if they'll let me pay back less than I owe if I try to negotiate. How should I go about it? I have one $5,000 balance and two $1,000 balances. I borrowed $7,000 but it sure would be nice to not have to use the entire 7 bills.
How do I contact collection agencies to negotiate and payoff the debt? I need to increase my credit score. These companies are not calling me. I am trying to contact them. Within the next year, I am wanting to buy a house. If I am to do this, then I need to get these credit collections off of my credit report. I really need to contact these people, so that I can get collections off of my credit report. Will someone please be so kind to inform me of how to take care of this problem? Thank You!
How do you negotiate delinquencies off your credit report? Someone on here once wrote this. But has anyone ever done it: "When you pay off your medical collections, before you send any checks to them you should try to negotiate the removal of these items from your report by the collection agencies. Get it in writing. Otherwise everything stays on for 7 years. That's a long time to pay for youthful troubles. " Say I pay off all my debts, can I ask each of them to remove the debt from my credit report? And how would having it in writing help?
Should I try to negotiate a lower interest rate on a credit card? I am in the process of paying off debts (thank you Dave Ramsey), including a credit card with about $9000 on it. I am able to make the payments and I am current. Despite this, a lower interest rate would be nice. Is it possible and advisable to try to negotiate a lower rate under these circumstances?
How far will a bank negotiate to avoid writing off a credit card debt? My mother's friend owes $16,000 on a credit card and the bank has been charging her 30 percent interest. Eventually she just refused to pay. After months of threats the bank relented and offered her a five-year plan to pay off the debt at six percent interest. She says that will simply be paying back the bank its 30 percent (in the total accrued so far) over a longer time. Plus, she can hardly afford the $325 monthly payments. Her debt is more than 10 years old and she's payed back so far more than twice what she borrowed on the card. She offered the bank 10 percent to call the account settled but they scoffed. She wonders, given that they did finally quit threatening her and made her an offer, are they likely to soften further if she holds her ground and prepares for bankruptcy? Would the bank be likely to accept a counter offer from her of their five-year-plan on a lesser total amount? How much would the bank get if they wrote off the account and sold the debt?
Can I negotiate directly with a credit card company instead of the collection agency? I have a credit card debt that has gone to a collection agency. It's a long story, but I was wondering if I can negotiate with the credit card company rather than the collection agency. I'm hoping to negotiate to a smaller amount and monthly payment. Is it too late for this? It turns out that Capitol One still owns the debt, the collection agency works for them. Does this make a difference in negotiation or am I still better off?
How do I negotiate a lower interest rate on my current credit card? I've had this credit card for 10 years now and it's at 28% APR!! It has a balance of $5,000 right now and I'm desperate to pay it off and get out of debt. I'm paying almost $200 a month in finance charges alone - so what do I do? Should I contact the card company directly and ask - and if so how. Or should I try the consumer credit counseling service to negotiate it for me? HELP
Is it possible to negotiate with a credit card company by offering to pay in full? I am going to be taking out a loan from a bank in order to pay off all of my credit card debt. On a few of my cards, I am over 30 days late on payments. Citi Card is calling constantly, lol. On some cards, I am caught up, but may be behind by the time I receive the funds from the loan. Would it be possible for me to negotiate with the credit card companies to reverse all late/over limit fees by tempting them that I will pay in full if they comply? Would they potentially be willing to reverse more than the current late/over limit fees? Either way, I will pay them in full...but I want to save as much $ as possible in the process.
Can I negotiate my credit card bills down? Well, I'm caught up, paying the minimums, and following Oprahs debt advice to pay off the smallest ones first. At this rate, we'll be out of debt in a year or two, but if I'm going to be scrimping and saving like this, I'd like to get something out of it. I hate giving the money to the credit card companies. Is there any way to negotiate them down? Not just the interest rate, the actual balance. I've heard that if you stop paying them, they are more willing to negotiate, however, we just got back on track, and I don't want to off again. Any ideas? Experience? Appreciate it, thanks. Actually they are my husbands credit cards, my mistake was in marrying an over spender, if you have credit cards you know they are mostly interest anyway. thank ecerybody! Those credit settlements, didn't that ruin your credit? Do you feel that it was worth it as far as improving your credit in the long run, and your ability to buy a house sooner than before the settlement?

If I negotiate a debt with a large credit card company (citibank) can they deny me.? I owe citibank 13k, i just received another letter that they are going to take action, a judgement was already made. I have a debt collector involved, but i want to go straight to the lawyers who are assisting with the debt. I can give them a couple of thousand for a downpayment and then make monthly payments. I am afraid of having my bank accounts garnished or paycheck. I live pay c heck to paycheck. The debt company has done very little to help me and I know they want a commission.
